There has been a significant amount of concern raised with this particular trade so I’m doing due diligence and creating a thread to start a discussion.
To Minnesota:
Cory Schneider Charlie McAvoy 2018 2nd Round Entry
To San Jose:
Patrik Laine

I am going to justify my vote here only in the fact that I don’t understand the reasoning for making such a trade from Minnesota point of view. Craig Andersen and Pekka Rinne are firmly entrenched on this roster and the player this roster needs the most is Laine. I am not chirping anyone I am just looking at this as an outsider trying to figure out how this deal came together. With some of the intense scrutiny over some other recent impact trades I think it’s fair to ask both parties their motives in completeing such a deal.

I see no issues with this trade, I personally was seeking out Laine as well but couldn't put up a better offer to match that. This is how I break it down, Craig Anderson is old and on the outs (sure he's still a solid option but not nearly as quality of an option as Schneider is). Schneider is still an elite goaltender that has at least 5 more remarkable years left in him on an up and coming team. As Jacob has stated before, he is treating this season as a "re-build" for him to make this team his own, I agree with the methodology of building your team from the net out. His goaltending is now cemented, and he also got a beast blue-liner in McAvoy who has loads of potential who is currently on pace for a 40-point season in his rookie campaign. Not to discredit Laine because I know he still has a lot more to prove, but he's currently on the same point trajectory as last season. He also protects his future by acquiring a 2nd Round Entry Pick that he could use to probably draft a first round talent, hence acquiring 3 first round draftees for a 2nd Overall player. This is how I view the trade.

The title of the poll should read 'Fairest Trade?'. Honestly anybody who thinks this isn't a fair deal doesn't really know what's up. The info I had gathered just before the trade, Laine is currently ranked 25th best RW and 74th best player overall. Schneider is currently ranked 11th best goalie on a Top 5 team (currently 3rd). Having said that, I understand the variance in value based on age and projection, which is what closes the gap a little bit between the two. With goaltending you're improving the most critical position for success, worth one third of all stats and four categories. McAvoy will be running things next year with the Bruins, a #1 PP QB (50+ pts from the backend; 20+ PPP), plus a Top 24 Entry Draft pick. Laine's best season to date saw him with 36 goals, 64 points total. I made the deal because I was in need of goal scoring depth from the wing, I dealt from a position of strength. Pretty simple. The trade improves both teams and will be the driving force behind the Minnesota Wild making the playoffs.

So i can understand the concern raised by other teams, and i actually thank you for putting those concerns towards the fact that I'm not getting a fair deal for Laine. However i do believe the assets i got in return meet the value of Laine's play and current position in a well put together and young Winnipeg Jets team.
I never was suitably happy with my goaltenders on my team, given that Anderson is indeed near the end of his NHL carreer and Rinne will follow soon after. I wouldn't be surprised if both of them are splitting the season with other goaltenders in the coming years. Where as i can sit happy knowing that Schnieder firmly holds that number one spot in Nee Jersey for at least 5-7 years.
Additionally, adding McAvoy to the deal bultsers my defence which I feel I'm lacking in both NHL and farm talent. McAvoy, in my opinion, will soon be a number one defencemen and a greatly sought after player. I am confident he will get icetime, points, and be one of the top offensive defencemen in the coming years.
Ultimately this deal comes down to my farm and what i felt was needed to round out my team and make me feel more confident moving forward. I had been back and forth with a couple orher teams that had considerable interest in Laine, however I believe that San Jose had put up a fair deal for the both of us. As this deal stands now, I believe it to be fair. Only time will tell as to whether or not i will regret this deal, however no one can really know that to be true.
In conclusion, I believe my farm team and assets hold potential for goal scoring to make up for what i lost in trading away Laine. And that's really what this deal came down to, I'm not in this to win this yesr or even the next. I'm in this for the long run, in the hopes of bulidng a franchise.
