The NAFHL rulebook is a living document.
Wrong. The NAFHL Constitution is an inanimate document, a document we follow to the
letter, especially when controversy arises.
It is unreasonable to expect that EVERY single rule or nuance be accounted for or seen with foresight by a single individual or group of individuals without error.
It isn't unreasonable to expect that every single rule or nuance be accounted for, it wouldn't have taken much to create a new thread each time the NAFHL Constitution was amended. In fact, I
requested this at the time of its first amendment. I also requested new rules/amendments to be highlighted in the new rulebook for the sake of clarity. This was, of course, ignored. I blame myself for not keeping a Word document or a number of Word documents for each new rulebook as it wouldn't have taken much hard drive space to accommodate. Less than 1MB. Errors are to be expected. Errors are to be corrected legally.
That is what amendments are for.
Amendments are an attempt to correct things that are not working and/or improve the league in some way. That doesn't mean history should be completely forgotten and not utilized. There could be a day when you may need those old documents, imagine that. Again, amendments are designed to be applied legally.
You are making this out to be a bigger issue than it is.
You did that.
'Choosing not to follow written rules' would be like me subverting roster requirements or changing league categories etc.
Choosing not to follow the written rules is just that, choosing not to follow the written rules, this includes
any rule.
to which there is no history of and thus no leg for you to stand on.
There's no history of this either. Read the NAFHL Constitution.
This is a case of "following" an unwritten rule that should have been included from the get-go.
This is a case of illegally ignoring the written rules. Should have, would have, could have, didn't.
You can claim ignorance but literally every single other member of the league was under the same impression
I'm claiming clarity. I'm claiming it was previously a misunderstanding as evidenced by the NAFHL Constitution and how it reads, which I went over again to be certain. It would seem 10 out of 12 of us agree with this as the written rule evidenced by the poll results. The 2 managers voting the other way are liars. It's all there.
and that impression had to come from somewhere. It didn't materialize out of thin air.
It materialized out of a misunderstanding and/or a lack of awareness of the written rules.
Go over the NAFHL Constitution again.Again, you are making this is into something bigger than it is.
You did that.
This right here, this back and forth between us, two different perspectives on what is
right, on polar opposite ends of a debate...this is controversy. You're always going to have controversy when the Commissioner of your league refuses to follow the law as well.
I handled it immediately.
You did nothing constructive. You made things worse. You created more controversy. You spat in the face of the law and decided you could do whatever you wanted. As my friend for over 15 years you should have listened to me more carefully and realized there's more at stake than me gaining some imaginary advantage even though everybody is playing by the same rules. This is entirely about
how the league is governed.
Koskinen was traded directly to the farm on a technicality per league vote.
Koskinen was traded directly to the farm through perfectly legal means, by following what the rules actually are, the league agreed that was the rule.
No subsequent trades of this fashion may be executed now that everyone has been made aware (again),
This is you illegally changing the NAFHL Constitution.
placing everyone on an even playing field since no transactions or trades are pending.
Everybody was already on an even playing field. Everybody would be on an even playing field either way.
After which I said that we could address the issue during the off-season so that we can have defined/consistent rules for the year and not distract from the fantasy season/playoffs.
Defined/consistent rules are those currently seen in the NAFHL Constitution. You are changing the rules mid-season any way you look at it. Why does this 'distract' from the season/playoffs? That's nothing but an excuse as a means of getting people to forget about it. This has brought much needed interest and activity to the league. An additional poll would be nothing in the grand scheme of things. How hard is it to vote and write a few sentences down? The only people 'distracted' and wasting a lot of time here are you and I, the Bad Boys of the league, a shame since we used to be on the same page almost always but you've done some things that I cannot follow you on.
I don't know how much more switfly or efficiently you would have liked the situation to be handled.
Pretty simple. You could have accepted the poll results gracefully, come to the understanding that the NAFHL Constitution
reads it as a legal move and the league officially agreed decisively. You could have then put up a poll to decide on a possible amendment due to the misunderstanding, lack of awareness and controversy.
It seems to me what you really meant was "choosing not to address the controversy immediately
to my liking."
Nah, I meant what I said bud-dy. Even though I know nothing will come of this I do hope that I've appealed to you in some small way with how operations correspond in the future. It's not too late, you could still intelligently decide to do the right thing even if it's not easy.
