I had a quick question about the true ownership of a certain player, Daniel Carcillo. Using the "Search" function in the forum, I noticed that Ottawa signed Carcillo to their prospect team on October 13th. However, I also saw that Atlanta lists Carcillo as a player on their farm team. The date of the Atlanta roster was August 28th (I think thats right before final roster submissions) and it was last edited by Derrick himself. Going back even further shows Carcillo on the predraft "Unavailable Prospects/Minor Leaguer" list and when Atlanta drafted him in the 2006 farm team draft. I double checked the yahoo postings and it doesn't list anywhere that Carcillo was released by Atlanta.
I'm not sure if I'm missing a post, transaction, or something else that explains Carcillo leaving Atlanta's farm team, so I want to post this and ask if someone can clarify this situation. So who is Carcillo's actual owner, Atlanta or Ottawa?

I actually investigated this myself, like any other discrepancy and questioned Atlanta during the process. While creating the new site, I only had 14 players listed on his farm. I thought that was a rather low number so i asked if his farm team was correct as listed. He agreed and told me that it was his complete roster finally coming to the conclusion that one or more of his farm/prospect picks were traded away. Logical enough.
Once the team pages and the construction of new site was started, all roster updates and prospect/minor leaguer information on the forum was no longer updated.
If this is true, either i missed him (possibly others) in transferring information/copying and pasting (especially if he was listed first or last) between the forum and the new site when making new documents
OR
Carcillo was released at some point during the summer, or presumably during last yahoo season and it was posted on the yahoo boards and not the forum as some members do. Since yahoo changed their format, past years posts and stats can no longer be viewed so there is no way to confirm or disconfirm that suspicion. This is why i stress the fact that any transaction concerning the farm be posted on both boards.
As a result, Carcillo could have been taken off Atlantas roster, off the prospect/minor leaguer list, one or the other or neither and it just went overlooked.
I have no idea.
It is very hard to keep track of every single player on every single roster and farm team, let alone the thousands of prospects out there. As a GM it is your responsibility to keep track of your own team to make sure everything is on point and correct.
With that said, Brad and I both were/are completely oblivious to any missing player (Carcillo) on his roster when said discussion took place. This indicates one of two things: the previous Atlanta GM made the transaction(s) and an error occurred then going unnnocticed for so long or Brad doesnt EVER look at his roster page. Come on guys, you cant expect me to believe you dont even know who is on each of your respective teams.
In any event, this is difficult to dissect. A decent amount of time has passed since my conversation with Brad with no mention of any further discrepancy (who knows how much time before that). Going further, 6 weeks or more have passed since I made the actually signing, and once again, nothing. If not for Mark, this might still be a what was once thought as a "roster anomaly."
Its easy for someone to look at the situation NOW, and claim Carcillo since he is performing, but at the time of the signing Carcillo was just an (according to records on the new site) unsigned prospect with 1 point on the year.
Everything listed above happened as stated. If true, I dont know if this is a mistake for the worse (Carcillo is legally Atlanta property and now signed by another on a commish mistake) or a mistake for the "better" (Carcillo is no longer Atlanta property and signed by another team legally, righting the previous wrong).
Certainly at this time all the mentioned documentation would indicate Carcillo is Atlanta's property, but the verbal and underlying evidence suggets otherwise. A thread on a forum cant talk or communicate, a GM can.
More to come as I try to investigate further.

No real update, Yahoo has isolated past years information without much discretion. Therefore, in this conflict of interest, I am going to keep everything how it is now, unless a better idea is proposed.
