So since he signed a 6 year deal, I should feel foolish now?
Hmm...I'm lost.

It certainly solidifies his place on the top line if he didn't already have the job.

Awesome. I guess that means Weiss is a lock for 80 as well. Funny how these 6 year deals work out.
Anyway, ALEXANDER OVECHKIN, a top 5 player in the league, had 92 points last season. By your prediction thats AT MOST only 11 points back.
Evgeni Malkin had 85 points.
Paul Statsny, with his 20 game point streak and amazing rookie campaign only had 78 points.
Mats Sundin, top line center, captain, and focal point of the entire leafs offense totalled 76 points.
Only ONE man had more than 80 points on the Sharks roster last season, and only TWO above 70. In terms of goals scored, the team as a whole was Top 3 in the NHL. If you ask me, there isnt much more scoring to be had.
San Jose forwards battling for one spot:
Marleau Pavelski Bernier Clowe Setoguchi Michalek
Michalek's odds at top line LW is 16.7%
Also, Ryane Clowe is the only (natural) LW on the San Jose roster (until Marleau reverts back).

Michalek's odds are better than 16.7% because not all the players you listed above played LW frequently before (which you oddly mentioned). He'll probably end up playing a decent number of games with JT & the Cheech, but SJ is so deep at that position that they can easily bump Michalek off the top line when he plays inconsistently. Don't forget, Michalek used to have chemistry with Marleau on the 2nd line and they might tag them together to have two very good scoring lines instead of one great and one above average scoring line.

Wow, this is such an ignorant post it's almost blinding. If you actually watched any Sharks games last season instead of looking at stat sheets you'd know that there was no consistency with the lines, which led to the low point totals of individual players, they were being spread over numerous players. The last 20 games of the season + playoffs saw Michalek as a mainstay on Thornton's line. This not only boosted scoring for the team, but helped individuals score at a more consistent, and improved, rate. Check Thornton's stats when Michalek entered the picture. Even if Michalek gets bumped down to the second line, as Mark said, he has proven chemistry with Marleau. You aren't going to pay a guy $4.3 million a year to play on the third or fourth line. Obviously Doug Wilson sees something. Add to that the fact that Michalek is a kid still learning and improving his game, and you've got a stud waiting to break out. People said the same crap about Hossa and Vanek. This is fun.

Was talking with Nos about our teams, and we ended up discussing player productions next season. Just some predictions we made that we want to post and come back to next year for the fun of it. My predictions:Milan Michalek <80 points next season Rick Nash <80 points next season Alexander the Great outpoints Sid the Kid next season Nos' Predictions:Milan Michalek = or > 80 points Rick Nash = or > 80 points Sid the Kid outpoints Ovy I hope all of us havent forgotten about this thread. I just couldn't help myself. Since Jesse isn't here to enjoy it, I say we all have a good round of laughs in his honor. Michalek = 55 points Nash = 69 points Crobsy = 72 points Ovechkin = 112 points
