here are the 1st rd matchups for the championship:
Buffalo vs Columbus Ottawa vs Boston San Jose & Pittsburgh have byes
and in the battle for 1st overall waiver pick... Vancouver vs Toronto Calgary vs Winnipeg Montreal & Atlanta have byes
so the playoffs are among us this week. i was wondering what does everyone think will happen this year? last year there were a couple of surprises (like Pittsburgh ending up with 2nd place) and i can only assume there will be some again this year. what does everyone predict will happen this year?
my guess buffalo beats columbus boston beats ottawa
san jose beats buffalo pittsburgh beats boston
san jose beats pittsburgh for #1 boston beats buffalo for #3 ottawa beats columbus for #5
let's just say i'm this year's rodney dangerfield... i never get any respect!

Wow, a huge upset brewing! Could the Sens go out in the first round? It looks that way. The Bruins with a perfect goaltending outing so far and nice offensive numbers. Watching the farm swaps is sweet too, it's like a calculated boxing match. Entertaining as hell too. Ahh, I love bye weeks. ;D
More trash talk!

Looks like there's that possibility! Boston has pretty much secured Shutouts, Wins, GAA, Save %, and Assists! 5 Categories!!! It's possible but tough to overcome!

It's over! Huge upset! Derrick almost gets swept!
2 goals, 1 assist, +3, 2 power play points from the sweep.
8-4 Boston
Biggest upset in NAFHL history?

It's over! Huge upset! Derrick almost gets swept! How is it an upset? I called it a week ago that I'd beat Ottawa. Did you doubt my team then? O ye of little faith.

Your team is solid as hell but also young and inexperienced. Considering the standings on the year, overall performance in individual categories, and "hype" going in I'd say it's a pretty substantial upset. Right now I wouldn't consider your team above Derrick's but it got the job done. In the future I can see your team being more "established" and it'll get the kind of respect you're after. Seriously though, well done, congrats!

Yea I definitely agree with NOS...You're team is solid but definitely considered the "underdog" goin into last week...But as everyone sees, that means nothing, your boys showed up and got the job done...Congrats. Atlanta's goin for that #1 waiver pick (aka winner of the losers) for 2 years in a row!

Wow, it looks like round 2 is filled with upsets, too!
It seems that Columbus vs San Jose will go down to the final day since they are currently tied. What an exciting and evenly matched series. Also, my team keeps on taking hits, but they just won't stay down for the count. After probably being the most IR-plagued team this season, my players still manage to come up big when it counts. Watching my team this past season has been like watching "Rocky" except its fantasy hockey. Yo Adrian, I did it!
Could this be an NAFHL first where the top 4 playoffs seeds don't make it to the championship game?

Could this be an NAFHL first where the top 4 playoffs seeds don't make it to the championship game? Yeah, I've almost certainly lost barring some miracle. (Look away now, this will be gross for some of you, excuses coming!) It's a joke really, I've been plagued with injuries all year and nobody seemed to notice (Crosby, Luongo, Bergeron, Smyth, Sundin, Chara, Nash, Hejduk, Khabibulin, Cleary, Legwand, etc. have all lost games to injuries, most of them for major time or most of the season) and as far as output goes I think I've lost the most combined. Also, I think it's in bad taste that Derrick manually added Okposo to bummies' team on the last day and I don't care if he asked him to do it, it's your team, manage it yourself or lose the missed games, period. What can you do?

How about last place Winnipeg making a run for it in the Consolation bracket ;D
And ive suffered through some rough injuries as well....at one point I had all my bench players hurt and up to 5 players on IR at once

What can you do? I'll give you that Crosby & Sundin being hurt is bad timing and really bad for your playoff run (I bet that deadline deal wasn't so great in hindsight). Besides the loss of Bergeron and maybe Cleary, you didn't have anything else that could actually "hurt" your team during the regular season that a waiver wire pickup couldn't fill. However, I don't think Nash being out for 2 games, Luongo for 3, and Chara out for 5 games should be considered as "major" injuries and severely hurt your team during the regular season. I guess you could've done way better than where you ended up, in 1st place. Basically, the Crosby & Sundin injuries sucks, but you still have a damn strong team and arguably one of the top 2 goaltending duos in our league. At the very least, you and Derrick can share good times how last year he was screwed by playoff injuries and this season its you.

I wouldn't consider any of those injuries as easy to deal with as a waiver wire pick up except for maybe Legwand. I also believe Nash was out for more than 2 games, I could be wrong. Chara being out during my playoff run makes it a major impact injury too. If you add up all the games missed and potential output I think I run away with the most lost. It didn't affect my regular season much because my team is fairly deep and had 24 weeks to either get ahead or make up ground. That shit catches up to you during the playoffs though. It's all for nothing if I can't win the championship, I don't care that my team is strong, it didn't get the job done and major issues need to be addressed in the off season. A disappointing end and a wasted effort.

Besides Crosby & Sundin, I didn't think anyone else was injured during your playoff match this week (I thought Chara was injured during your bye week, not this matchup). Don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes its just luck if your players are on a streak at the right time or injured at the wrong time. If you're looking to make some offseason moves, I'd be willing to take that injury-riddled, bum Nash or that fragile, man-of-glass Crosby off your hands.

looks like it could be a good matchup for the #1 waiver pick looking like Montreal and Jets unless my math(by math i mean quick look at tonights stats) is really bad lol

I won back to back weeks at the beginning of the season and now at the end hoping to keep that run up and give Pittsburgh the 1st overall in the waiver draft Goodluck Montreal

My life is over.... And Chara was hurt during your bye week and has been back for at least a week, missing a whopping 4 games... Injuries suck, and I picked up David Legwand as a fill-in center for the playoffs and the pansy decides not to play because of a "bruised foot" what a piece of ****. Lastly, Havlat, Afinogenov, Nylander, Eaves, Smyth, and Williams can all die because i as well have been ****ed by injuries.
