So what do you guys think?
My vote is strongly in favor of keeping the rules the same; smart and convienant. makes free agency more interesting to start the year.

Ah, my bad. Kind of rambled on in the other thread about my position. I think we should draft anyone.

Ok seriously, if we all take guys like Anson Carter, established NHLers on our farm teams, it will basically ruin the waiver wire/free agent portion of the pool. You can only carry guys that have played less than 200 NHL games on your minor league team. To hide established NHLers in our farm team rosters is ridiculous.
Let's say out of the 12 teams we have, everyone takes 10 established NHLers and 9 prospects for their farm teams. That would result in the next best 120 NHLers being out of contention for the waiver wire. Seriously, if we are able to to hide NHLers on the farm team, it would basically ruin the league.

The way I look at it is different I suppose. We have a 19 round draft ahead of us, with 12 teams, meaning another 228 picks. And these aren't even the top 228 prospects either, because we've probably already drafted 40-50 good ones already. My point is, it is a hell of a lot of research and a lot of time to compose such large farm teams, when we will probably only find 3 or 4 players from that team that will actually progress enough to make a difference in our team. Also, there's going to be like a player a day who surpasses the minor-leaguer limit and we'll have to keep replacing them all the time. A lot of work, I don't see the point to be honest. My alternative suggestion was saying that we should shorten the draft instead. I hear Robyn's point though and it makes enough sense to me.

A good point by Andrew, so why don't we make a rule that you can protect say 3-5 players on your minor league team that have more than 200 NHL games.
So, if someone has, for example, Steve Eminger. He has less than 200 games but should exceed that total this season. So if we allow teams to carry 3-5 guys on their farm team that have more than 200 NHl games, it would solve both of our issues.
it could look like this:
Section #
a) teams can protect up to 4 players on their farm team that have over 200 NHL games.
b) once 5 players on a farm team reach 200 games, the GM must drop one within 3 days.
c) any team sending down players from their team to the farm team that have over 200 games experience will be subject to the waiver wire (to prevent GM's from hiding players on their farm team at the end of the year)
Feel free to add anything in, let me know if their are any scenarios that one could consider a loophole.

A.) we could just shorten the draft to 12 rounds
B.) carry 3 players on the farm team that exceed 200 games, but you can not draft these players. (sending down at the end of the year would result in the waiver wire theory)
C.) extend the time period in which you have to call up/cut a player that exceeds the games played limit (2 weeks for example)
D.) a combination of these three things
protecting 5 players is too many in my opinion. thats another 60 players (approx 3 more full teams) potenitally gone from free agents, should that be the case we should have just made this a 20 team league.
as far as drafting players who have played 200+ games goes, that cant be allowed because im certain that its played into some peoples (including mine) drafting strategy; among other things.

Since there havent been any responses i have taken it upon myself to set the rules. The farm draft will consist of 12 rounds (139 picks) along with the selections made in the prospect draft itself. You may carry up to 19 prospects/minor leaguers on your farm team at any given time but it is not mandatory. simple as that.
as far as the complaint about recalling players that reach 150 games, i dont see the problem, their status just changes from "prospect" to minor leaguer." you do not lose this player. i dont think this will be that much of a hassle whereas most of the guys who are pushing the 200 gp limit should already be on teams or not worthy of being on a team one.
THE DRAFT WILL BEGIN THURSDAY WITH A 12 HOUR PICK LIMIT
the jets GM, ed, has seemingly gone AWOL and there was some time needed to find a replacement who will hopefully be on here and squared away by the time fo the draft. this was the holdup. enjoy!
