GOALS, GOALS, GOALS Ottawa prospects Rob Schremp and Alexei Mikhnov doubled up Thursday night as they scored a pair of goals. This does not come as a surprise. With the season set to begin, this further clouds the forward situation in Ottawa. Anze Kopitar, Andrei Kostitsyn, Mihknov, and Schremp are the front runners in this fierce battle for a spot on the roster. |

NO QUIT IN KOSTITSYN Andrei Kostitsyn recorded an assist in Thursday night's game. He now has a point in 3 straight contests, and 3 out of the 4 games he has played in this preseason. There seems to be a log jam of talented forwards fighting for a spot on the Ottawa roster. Keep an eye on this situation as the preseason wraps up this weekend. |

KOPITAR IMPRESSES OTTAWA STAFF Anze Kopitar recorded his first goal of the preseason against Anaheim last night. Although he hasn't lit up the stat sheet, the Ottawa Senators have been very impressed with this kids skills, work ethic and talent. Kopitar should get an extended look this season given the lack of depth Ottawa possesses at the center position. On the other side of things, Ottawa's superstar RW, Teemu Selanne, had a goal and an assist in a losing effort. He has been on fire to kick off the 06/07 campaign tallying 5 points in 3 games. Selanne looks to be picking up right where he left off last season. |

OSGOOD VS. THEODORE: ROUND 2 Ottawa goalies Chris Osgood and Jose Theodore squared off again Monday night, Theodore once again getting the better end of the exchange. Though both goalies surrendered 4 goals, each looked on their game and ready to start the season. Theodore looks to hold down his starting job, but will be n a short leash with Cristobal Huet waiting in the wings. Osgood looks to start the season as the #3. |

KOSTITSYN LIGHTS THE LAMP Andrei Kostitsyn scored a goal in Monday nights preseason action. This was his first of the year. Although an outside shot to make the sqad, it is still nice to see him developing nicely. |

SCHREMP DOES IT AGAIN Super prospect Robbie Schremp tallied his third powerplay point in 3 games Thursday as he squared off against the Calgary Flames. Schremp appears to be adjusting nicely to the NHL and doing it just in time too. Ottawa makes it's final roster cuts and adjustments next week. |

OTTAWA GOALIES QUICK REDEMPTION After struggling earlier in the week, the Ottawa crew was sensational Thursday night. The tandem of Chris Osgood, Martn Brodeur, and Jose Theodore faced a total of 56 shots stopping 53. Theodore and Osgood squared off against one another, both surrendering a goal before coming out. Fellow Ottawa Senator, Nicklas Lidstrom, added a powerplay goal in the first period. |

LARS OF THE MOHICANS One of the best kept secrets in Ottawa had an assist on the powerplay Thursday night, when he took on the New Jersey Devils. Lars Jonsson played 17 minutes and finished with 2 shots. This promising, yet almost forgotten about prospect is looking to crack the Senators roster in October but is a long shot given their depth at the position. Francois Beauchemin and Lukas Krajicek are also looking to steal a spot with the front runners being Sheldon Souray and Pavel Kubina. If Lars hopes to make the lineup, he needs continue his strong play. |

ALEXANDER OVECHKIN: "A LITTLE, TINY INJURY" Ovechkin was held out of practice Thursday because of what was described as "a little, tiny injury." Derrick added: "It's exhibition, it's training camp, trust me if he was hurt the way he is now and it was the regular season. . . . We're just being very careful." Derrick did not elaborate on the location or nature of the injury. Ovechkin got up slowly in the third period of Wednesday's preseason game against Tampa Bay after colliding knee-to-knee with Lightning center Eric Healy, but returned to the game moments later. Ovechkin also assured reporters that he's not hurt seriously, and jokingly danced a jig to prove his well being. |

SEMIN DAZZLES; OVECHKIN SEES FIRST ACTION Former Ottawa prospect Alexander Semin dazzled the crowd in his first North American action since 2003. He scored a goal in the first period and finished the game with 8 shots, one better that fellow russian, and first round draft pick, Alexander Ovechkin. Ovechkin, the Senators first round, first overall pick saw several scoring chances finishing with 7 shots respectively. Concerned with their depth at the center position, the Senators decided to move Russian star Semin in a package deal with Patrick Eaves and Curtis Sanford earlier this month. |

FREE AGENT SIGNING, LINDROS COULD PAY DIVIDENDS Eric Lindros, (signed when free agent opened on August 1st) had a goal and an assist against the Coyotes last night. His injured wrist that sidelined him most of last season doesnt appear to be giving him any problems. A nice acquisition if he can stay healthy, Lindros should be a very nice 4th line center for the Senators. |

CHISTOV SCORES IN DEBUT Ottawa Senator prospect, Stanislav Chistov, saw extended action in his first pre-season game Wednesday night. He finished the evening with a goal and 4 shots. Fellow Ottawa Senator, Teemu Selanne also had a goal coming on the powerplay late in the second period. Dustin Penner (traded away earlier in the summer) had a sensational night as well, finishing with 2 goals, 1 assist and a +3 rating. |
September 19, 2006
SCHREMP TALLIES ANOTHER In only his second pre-season game, Rob Schremp tallied another power play point. The goal came at 8:04 of the 1st period. Phoenix went down two men and that's all Schremp needed to bury his wicked wrist shot. He is definitely stating his case early on for a roster spot on the Senators. In two pre-season games, Schremp has 1 goal and 1 assist, both coming on the power play. Fellow teammate and prospect, Alexei Mikhnov, failed to score. |

ROUGH NIGHT BETWEEN THE PIPES The Ottawa Senators tandem of Martin Brodeur, Cristobal Huet, and Jose Theodore didn't "show up" Wednesday night, as they all saw their first pre-season action. Behind a team chucked full of prospects, Brodeur finished the game with 13 saves on 16 shots, but gave up all three goals in a span of 4 minutes near the beginning of the first period. Huet wasn't any better. In his limited time, he gave up 4 goals on 16 total shots before coming out of the game. Montreal was also in a bit of an "experimental" mode, so Huet fans need not worry. Former Vezina winner, Jose Theodore also made his first start for the Senators Wednesday night. Amidst the turmoil, Theodore's much anticipated start was nothing short of impressive. He looked positionally sound and on his game stopping 11 of 12 shots before coming out after the first period. The Ottawa Senators invested some stock in Theodore, acquiring him last month from Winnipeg. They hope he can regain form and put his off-ice troubles behind him. So far, so good. Ottawa gets ready and is set to open it's season on October 4th in front of this tandem. |

PATRICK EAVES IMPRESSIVE ON TOP LINE Former Ottawa Senator prospect, Patrick Eaves had a dynamic first pre-season game. Skating on the top line, Eaves tallied one goal and one assist while also creating several other scoring oppurtunities along the way. He figures to make a major impact this season after scoring 20 goals in his rookie season last year, seeing only limited action. Eaves was moved in a deal earlier this month that sent highly touted Russian prospect Alexander Semin, goalie Curtis Sanford, and Eaves to Winnipeg in exchange for Joe Thornton. |
September 18, 2006
JUICY JUSSI Jussi Jokinen had a goal and an assist in Monday nights win over the Thrashers. However, he already has a roster spot locked up after his breakout rookie season one year ago. The Senators might want to use him sparingly from here on out to prevent any sort of injury. Jokinen looks to continue his solid play heading into the regular season, where he will more than likely line up with Jason Arnott and Glen Murray on Ottawa'a 3rd line. |

SCHREMP SUITS UP Rob Schremp, best known for his deadliness on the powerplay, laced up his skates for his first NHL game last night. The result: a powerplay assist. Schremp's debut was eagerly anticipated throughtout Ottawa and it's organization. He played close to 15 minutes of action, where he saw several scoring chances. Schremp isn't a lock to make the roster out of training camp however, with Senator prospects Stanislav Chistov and Alexei Mikhnov both pressing for playing time. |

ONDREJ PAVELEC: IN NET MONDAY The Ottawa Senators goalie of the future, Ondrej Pavelec, got the nod to play in Monday nights game against the Dallas Stars. In limited action, Pavelec stopped 11 of the 13 shots he faced. A decent outing, but he is still a few years away from cracking the roster. Ottawa looks to take their time with this kid as they aren't in hurry with Brodeur, Huet, and Theodore all ahead of him on the depth chart. |

Highly touted Ottawa Senator prospect, David LeNeveu saw his first action of the 2006-2007 season Sunday, starting against the Edmonton Oilers. He played a period and a half of hockey before coming out of the game. LeNeveu gave up only one goal to the Oilers. LeNeveu needs to keep up his strong play if he hopes to grab a roster spot this season. |

MIKHNOV IMPRESSIVE IN DEBUT Alexei Mikhnov lived up to the Senators expectations in his first pre-season game Sunday, racking up three points (1 goal, 2 assists). After a brilliant performance, it will be hard for Ottawa not to give Mikhnov a roster spot. We will continue to moniter this situation. |
