This past week saw some movement with 2 of the top teams from last season. In a move to bolster there D, Calgary has parted ways with one of the most underrated Centers in the league by trading away Marc Savard. Also letting go of Daniel Sedin. In return the Flames get a big boost on D by adding Tomas Kaberle who has put up 50+ point seasons the last 3 years putting him in a class of elite level offensive Dmen. They also received Center Phil Kessel, who will try to shoulder some of the burden of losing Savard, Cam Ward who is a decent goalie but has yet to rekindle that form that he had 3 years ago in the playoffs, and Dustin Byfuglien who if playing on D can be a very good option offensively but if stuck on the wing is a marginal player in the league.
Impact:
Initially this trade looks good for both teams. Calgary shores up the D that needed a piece or two to really be a threat, gains a goaltender with about the same ability as Ray Emery, who was lost this season due to wanting to play in Russia. In Phil Kessel they get a player that can score in the league just hasn't put it all together quite yet at this level. Boston add a top level Center in Savard to an already very impressive crop and a great offensive minded D. Sedin to help take some of the offensive pressure off of Tomas Vanek and Eric Cole in Beantown.
Both teams really went out and got exactly what they needed to continue there success this coming season.
