1. Ottawa Senators (1) 7 Wins, 2.17 GAA, .926 SV%, and a league leading 3 SHO is good enough to keep the Senators atop the NAFHL power rankings for a second consecutive posting. After smothering the defending NAFHL Cup Champion Bruins 9-1 in Week 3, (29 A, 18 PPP) Ottawa's yearly total of 60 assists and 41PPP are good enough for bests in the league in both categories. Cupcakes one year ago, the Senators have beefed up (77 PIMS) by way of off-season acquisitions, but goals (23) are a bit of a concern.
2. Columbus Blue Jackets (4) 10 Wins, 1.78 GAA, .935 SV%, (all league bests) and one complimentary SHO fuel the Blue Jacket's rise, up two spots from #4 last posting. As anticipated, a healthy Gagne and a rejuvenated Marian Hossa (combined 13G 14A) have given new life to Columbus. Leads the league in GWG (7) and tied for the league lead in Goals (37) but dead last in SOG with 235. Sports an impressive .157 scoring percentage, but unfortunately this is not an accredited statistical category.
3. Pittsburgh Penguins (2) So far Pittsburgh has managed to muster 28 goals and 46 assists for a grand total of 74 points. Couple that with 37 PPP and 6 GWG and you have yourself a pretty good start to the season right? Oh yeah. We forgot to mention Pittsburgh has been without 5 defensemen, with 3 starters currently on IR (Gonchar, Whitney, Zubov). Needs to improve +/- (-13) and SOG (238).
4. San Jose Sharks (3) Unbeaten in 3 outings (2-0-1), but strength of schedule slighty unimpressive (Cgy, Van, Tor). Through three weeks, San Jose finds itself down a spot on the strength of mediocre stats. An unflattering (30G/47A/77PTS) is good enough for 4th worst in the league. Has compiled a steady 7 wins, and 2 shutouts, but 3.04 GAA and .905 SV% will need to improve if the Sharks hope to make some noise in the NAFHL playoffs.
5. Buffalo Sabres (5) Buffalo is MEAN. A league-leading 136 PIMS must have opponents shaking in their boots. NAFHL's preseason sleeper certainly has yet to disappoint. With 85 PTS, 39 PPP, and 311 SOG, the Sabres look poised to breakout and make a run deep in the playoffs. The only concern here, if any at all, is health in net, and stopping the puck (6, 2.85, .909%). Look for this team to soar up the rankings when injured superstar Gaborik makes his return.
6. Boston Bruins (6) Boston is an offensive dynamo, yes (95 PTS, 4 SHP, 351 SOG) good enough for league bests in all three, but goaltending woes have the bruins at a stalemate. Its 3.14 GAA is 3rd worst in the league and it's .886 SV% is dead last. 10-1-1 against Atlanta in Week 1, and a combined 6-13-5 against Columbus and Ottawa in Weeks 2 and 3 land Boston at #6 in this posting and in the overall NAFHL standings.
