No, I don't think so (unless there is an overwhelming league demand). I have been against this in the past, and am still against it now. I feel that GM's who put in the work should be rewarded as such, and those GM's who blow off a draft, should be punished as such. Totally agree. We're agreeing left and right lately. I'm fine with this. We've held hands and sung kumbaya together too many times.

Are you coming up with an available players list like last year aswell? No, I don't think so (unless there is an overwhelming league demand). I have been against this in the past, and am still against it now. I feel that GM's who put in the work should be rewarded as such, and those GM's who blow off a draft, should be punished as such. Good. I actually prefer not having one.

All rosters have been updated post-Waiver Draft. Please check to make sure your team is accurate. Good job to everyone else for keeping your team rosters up to date without any violations.
There are no waivers during the off-season. Open free agent signing will begin on September 1st, 2013 at 12:00 AM (Midnight) EST.

Open free agent signing will begin on September 1st, 2012 at 12:00 AM (Midnight) EST. No I wasn't. I sent RNH to the farm on 8/17, which maxed my farm roster at 19. Desjardins was released to make room for Ramo on 8/17. Backlund was released to make room for Berra on 8/18. There was 1 spot open on my main roster for Colin Wilson. Check my farm transaction forum to confirm these statements since my roster wasn't correctly updated previously.

This forum "upgrade" is absolutely deplorable. I loathe its existence and everything that comes with it.

Open free agent signing will be delayed until all teams have registered for the Yahoo league whereas I can not enter the rosters or make the league live until all teams have done so.

Just a reminder: An NHL team must own a players rights in order for him to ne signed to a NAFHL roster This rule includes Tim Thomas.

^ That makes no sense. The rule in question:
6) Draft Procedure H) No player may be drafted or signed to a NAFHL roster unless that player was drafted or has signed a contract with an NHL team.
The wording says 'unless that player was drafted (Tim Thomas was drafted) or has signed a contract with an NHL team. So he meets the requirements and I'm sure would have been eligible to be drafted in the Waiver Draft. This has held up in the past with other players such as Mats Sundin, if this rule were true the way you're saying there would be numerous problems with UFA players not holding NHL contracts at certain points and thus unable to be rostered, keeper players. I signed Tim Thomas legally.

The Mats Sundin instance was before the inclusion of the rule in question in the current rule book. Since the rules inclusion, this is how all players have been handled. Radulov was able to be rostered because technically he still had a contract with the Predators. The only "issue" here is the fact that Yahoo now lists "inactive" players in its database (making them available to be picked up before the player has a comtract) whereas before it did not and the signing was dictated by waiver priority once the player was added to the database.
As for the rule itself, it could be worded better, but it's intent is and always has been in reference to prospects (drafted) and minor leaguers/all other players (NHL contract) as separate entities.

I've followed the rulebook, cite the rule where you can legally block this transaction. You can't cite one. Tim Thomas meets the requirements to be signed as evidenced above. Does this also mean Mason Raymond cannot be signed? Think about that rule for a second, you even mention its original intent and you ignore my point about UFA's. You know very well this isn't how this transaction should be handled. Either legally block the transaction by citing the Rulebook that governs this league or return Tim Thomas to my roster, thank you.

How about Damien Brunner?

22nd President of the United States Grover Cleveland was drafted (to serve) as well. Does that mean he is available to be rostered?
I understand the point you are trying to make, but what you are failing to understand is that once again, it is an issue of the WORDING (to which we have all understood without issue for years) in the rule book and nothing more. The only time there is an issue is when someone tries to find a loophole to maximizes his or her gains "illegally." not every rule can be written, some things are just understood.
Also, being a UFA and retiring are two completely different things. UFA's are just coming out of a contract and are with almost 100% certainty expected to sign a new contract, be it with their former team or a new team. An individual who is or has been retired is not.

22nd President of the United States Grover Cleveland never held an NHL contract, he was never drafted by an NHL team either. Tim Thomas never retired. He is a UFA just like any other UFA. He has been drafted. He was even rostered with the NYI last season, he then became a UFA...again, like anybody else. Once again I ask, what about other UFA's? Mason Raymond? Damien Brunner? Both UFA's on PTO offers, are they not legal to be rostered? According to you they shouldn't be able to be rostered, unless of course you're picking and choosing. The league has never once worked in this way, you're just making things up (or confusing rules) and it shows when I can cite rules and player examples to back up my side and you cannot and resort to irrelevant examples involving former Presidents. Do you really want to start the year off in this fashion? Desperately?

Technically Tim Thomas or Mason Raymond are not any NHL teams property until they sign an NHL contract not a pro tryout contract. I agree with Derrick here. There were probably many GM's waiting on signing Thomas or Raymond based on them signing an actual NHL contract.

I don't always like siding with Nos, especially since it could hurt my chances against him, but I logged into yahoo today (albeit 2 hours after he did) with intent to sign Tim Thomas. Thomas never officially retired last year, rather he was suspended indefinitely by the Bruins for refusing to show up to training camp / practice (can be confirmed w TSN & wiki). His rights were owned by Boston before being traded to NYI last year. I don't think the NHL would allow teams to trade retired players. The Islanders let the final year of his contract expire, allowing him to be just like any other UFA this offseason. Technically, he is a free agent that currently doesn't have an NHL contract. I can see Derrick's side of the argument (no official contract, yet, although he was invited to camp), but I think his status is just like any other UFA in the league and I would've assumed Nos's signing was legal before these posts were made. I don't see how this situation would be different from taking a guy like Selanne in the waiver draft, who at the time of the draft was a UFA and people didn't know if he would retire or return to the NHL.
