MONTHLY REPORT
There has been some confusion regarding drafting of late and I am hoping to clear some of this up.
The Inaugural Draft (the draft beginning May 6th) is a 19-round draft where you may draft ANYONE who has already been drafted by or played with a NHL club. This means that you will be able to take guys ranging from Jagr, to Crosby, to Malkin. Also, keep in mind prospect eligibility when drafting. A prospect is defined as: a player with less than 150 NHL games experience and the age is 24 or under 24 (as at July 1 each year). YOU MAY TAKE PROSPECTS IN THE INAGURURAL DRAFT. So, for example, Sidney Crosby will be a prospect for this upcoming fantasy season, since he only has 81 career games played and is under the age limit. Keep in mind too that if he only plays in 68 NHL games next season, that will give him a total of 149 games played, which would mean that he would be a prospect the following year too. Crosby and other prospects have a special right: they can be moved to the farm team without having to clear waivers. Prospects are only prospects for so long though. Keep in mind that the entire farm team is kept for free each year
The second draft we will have will be the prospect draft. This draft will take place every season. Only players selected in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft and players selected in the 2005/2004 NHL Entry Drafts who have not already been taken in the Inaugural Draft may be selected. Keep in mind that all players drafted here must meet the eligibility requirements for a prospect: less than 150 NHL games experience and the age is 24 or under 24 (as at July 1 each year). Players selected in this draft this year will automatically be assigned to your Farm Team, and each will take up one of the nineteen roster spots on that team.
The Farm Draft will be our third draft this season. This will be a sixteen-round draft to fill the remaining spots of your farm team. In this draft, both minor leaguers and prospects not taken in the Inaugural Draft or prospect Draft may be taken. All players taken will be automatically assigned to the farm. Keep in mind that players on the farm team will be kept for free each year. Once players on the farm team no longer meet the minor leaguer of prospect requirements, you will have 2 days to call them up to your active roster, trade them, or release them.
Throughout the season you may call players up and down (no waivers for prospects, waivers for minor leaguers) from active roster and farm team as much as you want (not to be abused though). You may drop farm players throughout the season, but in order to add someone to your farm team during the season, you must either gain him through a trade OR he must be in the yahoo database.
For next season (and each year after), you will be able to keep 12 players from your active roster, plus your entire farm team (19). We will have a 7-round waiver draft to fill the remaining 7 spots on the active roster. There will also be a 3-round prospect draft. When your team gets on the clock for the prospect draft, you will have 2 options: A) Draft an eligible prospect that was drafted by a NHL club in that season or the past 2 seasons and drop a player from your farm team to make room, or B) pass or trade your pick.
The waiver order for the season will begin as the opposite of that of the Inaugural Draft. Remember to post on the message board if you are dropping a player from your Yahoo! Roster to assign him to your farm. If you do not, it is assumed you are dropping him for good.
Following the Inaugural Draft, we are asking each GM to do a “Draft Report/Review/Analysis” of another GM’s draft. Please grade each position (C, LW, RW, D, G) and write an analysis on it (length is up to you).
Here will be the pairings:
Winnipeg – Columbus
Toronto – Buffalo
Montreal – Boston
Ottawa – Pittsburgh
Calgary – Atlanta
Vancouver - Colorado
Feel free to PM me with a news article for your team whenever/ if you ever feel like doing so.
