E) No free agent signing is allowed before June 1. After keepers are submitted on June 1, any prospect not from the current years draft class, and with 10 games or less NHL experience may be signed to a mangers respective farm team providing there is an open roster spot. Any minor leaguer with 10 games or less NHL experience may also be signed under the same restrictions. Open prospect signing will resume once the current years Prospect Draft has concluded and open Free Agent signing will resume after both drafts have concluded.

I think it makes things simpler/less complex and teams more managable if the restriction on signing FA/prospect/minor league player is all lifted on the same day. Its also more convenient in terms researching players to sign (e.g. you can just look up all the players at the same time instead of sifting through FAs and prospects).

I think that the rule should stay the same. I agree that prospects should be signed after the prospect draft and FA should be signed after the waiver draft. The rest of the rule in my opinion is fine as well, but there should be a designated time when the prospects/minor leaguers with 10 or less NHL games experience can be signed after keeper submission. For example, if keepers are due at 11:59pm on June 1st, then the signing should begin at 12:00am June 2nd, even if everyone has submitted their keepers before 11:59pm June 1st. This makes sure that everyone knows exactly when to post their signings and everyone has a fair chance of signing the players they want.

My vote was for NO player acquisition, except via trade, at all until after both drafts. So, I obviously choose to keep this rule if it cannot be ammended to my liking.

Do you understand the rule/poll? Or am I misunderstanding you? I actually agree with you, no player signing until after both drafts are complete and a designated FA signing date can be put in place.

You aren't misunderstandng me but perhaps I misundertood you. I took this poll as you wanting to sign anybody at anytime. My mistake I suppose. I suggest making a new poll where the choices are more specific rather than eliminated or kept. A rule like this one cannot, in my opinion, simply be eliminated without having a new rule to go in its place. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yeah, maybe it wasn't clear. After talking to Derrick for a long while I've grown disinterested in the rule though so I won't start a new thread.

I don't care anymore. Plus, we don't seem to have a unanimous decision. Plus, it's not like Derrick would dump the players he already signed. He did it under the current rules and therefore people would find it unfair if the rule was changed now and they couldn't pick anybody up when Derrick did. I think this is something that will have to be changed next season if at all.

I think this is something that will have to be changed next season if at all. As you said, the poll options are unclear, so that might be a part of it. What Derrick did is fine under the rules, and most people didn't question it so it's unreasonable to ask him to undo what he has done. I would prefer having prospect/minor league/FA signing all occur at the same time after the waiver draft just to keep things organized. On the other hand, I don't think many of us would take advantage of this rule (like Aubrey said, he understood the rule and choose not to take advantage of it). The benefits are minimal, and you'd have to put in a fair share of research anyway.
