Just out of curiosity, what exactly is the purpose and/or benefit of the rule preventing minor leaguers from being signed directly to the farm?
Using Zuccarello as an example: I take the time to comb through free agents and find a player who may be having a break-out season.. Instead of me being rewarded for my time, Nos, who happens to take 30 seconds to skim the main league page on yahoo, places a waiver claim and is rewarded with getting the player on his farm team... Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me so I thought I'd inquire.

I think this issue came up when we defined a minor league player vs prospect. Farm teams are meant to store young players while they are developing (they stink now, but will be good in the future). In theory, when a player reaches the "minor league" status, they are good enough to contribute on a fantasy team (they're okay now, but can still be better in the future). The goal of the farm team isn't to "stack" good, young players who can contribute to your fantasy team right now. Minor league players are supposed to be a double edged sword: use them on your fantasy team OR keep them on the farm team. Sending them through waivers is the risk you take... ...at least that's my view on the subject also, you could've claimed Zucc from waivers when Nos sent him to the farm. That would've prevented him from being on Nos's farm team and then you could try to send him down at a later date. If you recall, Derrick & I had a pretty epic game of one upmanship for like two weeks as we battled over Cristopher Nilstorp via repeatedly signing, sending to the farm, & claiming him from each other. I guess that got us both pretty far

In addition to what Mark has already explained, the rule is in place to prevent managers from trading minor leaguers directly from a main roster to the farm to circumvent the waiver system and subsequently games played eligibility rule. Additionally, what you are being "punished" for Brad is the fact that you did not follow league (or Yahoo) protocol. In order for a player to be subject to waivers, he must be on your main roster for a minimum of one day (update). You immediately signed, and then dropped Zuccarello. Which is essentially the same thing as not signing him in the first place. What Nos did was observe that you made an invalid transaction, and capitalized on your mistake by signing Zuccarello, rostering him for a day, and then sending him through waivers, to which he went unclaimed. If you think that Nilstorp (future HOF'er) battle was epic, wait until you see the impending one for Montoya

Yep.. I'm aware that I could have placed a claim once Nos did it. Just wanted clarification on the purpose of the rule. Thanks guys.

And by "Thanks guys" I mean "fuck off Derrick." Changing warning levels now because I inquired about the purpose of a rule? You continue to amaze me with your douche-ness. Seriously, this is supposed to be fun, but your level of asshole has seriously challenged that fact for the past year.

And my warning level was increased because of? That is a roster violation.

And my warning level was increased because of? That is a roster violation. Mark Barberio. Rasmus Ristolainen, (from Brad himself), Jacob Trouba, Cody Ceci. Propably a few others aswell but those struck out from a minute of glancing. You better keep those warnings rolling then.

All of these players are now available in next waiver draft. You have to move guys up before 10 GP. I had a violation earlier for trying to get Filip Forsberg.
