All of the suggestions provided for a playoff pool so far have been good ones. However, I am looking to take this in a completely different direction. Tell me what you guys think of this format that I have been thinking about and tinkering with for awhile now.

Interesting idea there Commish, but I'm more on the fence of implementing a format to utilize the players that are already on our rosters. Players we've drafted, signed, traded for etc. throughout the season.

I'm down for whatever the league decides, I think your idea is very interesting Derrick. I'm just happy hockey is back!! What's the deal with the invite I got via email for the pick up hockey pool stuff?

I appreciate the thought and work put in but I don't like this format. Is this supposed to crown a Champion for the season? Is this for the Keeper Slot? If this is supposed to crown a Champion, again, how is this indicative of the strength of our Keeper League teams? Why should we ditch 22 weeks of play, 2 weeks away from crowning a Champion, for a pick-em style lotto? It just doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. If this is supposed to be for the Keeper Slot, why does our original format need to change? We just need to wait for qualifying rounds to complete and then pick our box style selections like always. I'm not even sure I fully understand this proposed format, can't pick a team twice? Can't be picked again until the next round? Does this mean players can be picked and used twice by two different teams? Is it reliant on playoff rounds 1 & 2? It's pretty confusing and more importantly does not showcase a team's true strength and cannot be considered legitimate.

Scoring categories are also a joke, one point for a SHG/SHA, .25 for PIM?!? No PPP, shots, +/-? If there were ever any categories to eliminate it would be SHP & PIM. Not PPP & SOG.

I just don’t see a way to do that given the circumstances. No matter what, this season will always have an asterisk next to it. You will be considered the regular season champion, but for the sake of history, we won’t crown a playoff champion in the traditional sense. We will crown a stand-alone champion in whatever stand-alone format that is accepted. As for your questions, let me clarify. We have 12 teams in our league with 2 picks in each round for a total of 24 picks. There are 24 teams in the NHL playoffs including the qualifying rounds. Once an NHL has been selected by a manager in our league, that team can not be selected until round 1 is over and all other NHL teams have been selected. So for example, you have the number 1 pick and you pick the New York Islanders. You now own all the players on the Islanders and no other manager in the league may pick the Islanders until round 2. With your second pick you select the Columbus Blue Jackets. You now own all the players on the Columbus Blue Jackets as well as the New York Islanders. This process repeats unto each manager has selected 4 NHL teams. Each GM then selects a roster of 23 players from the 4 NHL teams that he drafted.

The categories aren’t set in stone but they are proposed as such to make more players relevant since, in theory, GM’s would be drafting entire NHL teams. There is an extra added element of strategy that extends beyond just rostering 23 scoring forwards. The thinking behind the categories is to keep us as close to a points only pool as possible, while placing an emphasis on the value of goalies, yet still making every roster player relevant.

Yeah...here's the thing, I am the Champion. I appreciate that none of you like what happened, but it happened. Our goal, and the goal of Yahoo, is to crown the rightful Champion based on the information we have. It has been decided. If you're going to apply an asterisk no matter what, what's the point at all? If we're not going to utilize our actual Keeper League teams to count points and determine a winner, what's the point? This literally has nothing to do with our Keeper League. If you want to downplay the significance of this year's victory, or anybody else wants to for that matter, so be it. I don't know why I give a shit because truly I don't. If you count your ties (that Yahoo determined a winner from and was accepted) or your cheater season then I'll sure as Hell count this. We can have controversy and asterisks, fine by me. I'll take the 1st place designation on Yahoo within our history book and the 1st place Championship trophy on Yahoo as proof of my accomplishment all day over the opinions of sour dissenters, alright? Hate the suggested format, it doesn't check any of my boxes to move forward with, I will not be participating. I gave you guys an out, a legitimate out, offer still stands, if you don't want to take it we can just move on with the Keeper Slot box style playoff format as always for playoff participation.

Also, the categories are all scoring categories. There are no defensive categories, PIM is a shit category, to place value on PIM & Shorties over PPP & SOG is ludicrous.

We can scrap the idea and just do the regular playoff box style pool we normally do to determine who gets the extra keeper slot. It really doesn’t matter to me. I was just trying to come up with something different since this season is so far from normal.
You can argue you’re the champion all you want but the fact of the matter is that the playoffs were not completed. Winning the regular season means next to nothing according to the statistics. The outright winner of the regular season has only gone on to win the playoffs ONCE in the entire history of the league, way back in 2009.

There is no argument. I am the Champion. The rightful Champion. The guy who held 1st the whole way and finished in 1st. The guy who Yahoo has determined to be the Champion and given the trophy to, based on the information we have collected to this point, 22 Weeks of play that doesn't mean nothing. Whether the playoffs were completed or not is meaningless, the season was completed due to unfortunate circumstances. Damn unfortunate. Only a sour desperate coward without a clue would hold onto something like that as a way to dodge the loss you were headed for anyway. Also, your information is wrong, surprise, surprise, yet again. The outright winner was the regular season Champion in 2018 as well. One more thing, do you actually think your half season Championship counts? Nah, nah, nah, yet another Championship in question for you.

One last thing, I gave you guys an out! You can take it, show the confidence in the players you actually have on your roster to win you the league. Nobody got any outs for your questionable seasons so, hey, I'm going above and beyond here. I'm a fighting Champion and I have the best team, by far. You think you do? Actually prove it.

One more thing, do you actually think your half season Championship counts? Nah, nah, nah, yet another Championship in question for you. My information is not wrong. Do you even know what OUTRIGHT WINNER means? You and I tied with 313 points in the regular season 2018 (before I went on to spank your ass in the playoffs 10-2). You and I shared the regular season title with the same amount of points. Nobody won it OUTRIGHT. Therefore, the only time the outright winner of the regular season also won the playoffs was ONCE in 2009 (me, again), as I said before.

You do a lot of complaint but not a lot of suggesting.

Guy, you finished with the most points, most wins and 'won' the Championship, due to an extreme amount of extra skater starts. I think you can go ahead and count that one. Besides, I was saying that facetiously as using a metric like that to predict the future is a fallacy. 'Hey, check it out, the best team never wins! Don't try so hard in the future!' Pretty sure I made a suggestion, a superior suggestion, long before you said anything. I complain when there's something to complain about. To determine a League Champion not using our rosters is just pure stupidity, how could you ever take it seriously? Like I said, use the rosters we currently hold, zero moves or perhaps you could have one final run through before games begin for players that aren't active or are on IR that aren't injured anymore, that's technically not a 'move' but what I'm saying is once we're going, we're going, it would become way too confusing to keep up with moves so once it begins that's it. 1 point for a goal, 1 point for an assist, 2 points for a win and an extra point for a shutout. Nothing needs to be done except manually count the points as they come in, which I will voluntarily, and happily, do. I task you with double checking and I task Robyn - Flames with a third check as he's been here just as long as us and has had the most success after us. I task everybody to follow along and keep count as well, I know Daniel - Canucks & Kyle - Devils will make sure things are correct. It will be fun to follow along so closely. I will also do a final run through at the completion of the playoffs to be sure corrections don't get lost. Every game counts, qualifying rounds and playoff rounds. Very simple and actually legit because it's tied to our Keeper League teams. This I will accept and if I lose, which I will not, I will concede the 2020 Pandemic Championship.

So you basically want to hand either Daniel - Canucks or Kyle - Devils the championship then? Interesting. They have a disproportionate amount of players on their rosters from the top 6 teams in the NHL. Or in other words, the teams who have the best odds of making it to the Stanley Cup Finals, which in turn would lead to more points scored for their fantasy teams.

There's virtually no other way to accomplish something utilizing our own rosters on this short notice. We all busted our asses to get these rosters to where they are today. It will never be perfect. However it's an option I'd rather take then still see Nos crowned the Champion which unfortunately he will be if we don't accept this format.

Teams will always hold perceived 'advantages', they're earned. You think Chris - Capitals is going to compete right alongside Kyle - Devils? There are only a couple of teams that are in the running, by design, as it should be. I'm glad you think Daniel & Kyle are ahead of me, that'll make my sure victory that much more impressive that you didn't think I could accomplish it. Didn't you just allude to anything being capable of happening a couple of posts ago? The best teams aren't locked in as the victor? You don't think teams like Edmonton, Winnipeg, Vegas, New York Rangers & Pittsburgh have a chance to go deep? Bottom line, it shouldn't be 'fair', teams are built with superiority in mind. Prove your team is the best. The team with the most impressive players during this hard and unique time.

Its tough to do a live playoff pool with current roster players because of the severity of volume that some teams will have compared to others.
But at this point the covid cup will always have an asterix either way for me its more for just having something to follow.
Im into whatever really as long as most of the league agrees.
Any action is good action we are getting pretty close though and id be interested in everyones opinion on it
