Avs release Budaj and with the recent release of him from Russia Colorado Avalanche are happy to Sign Evegeni Nabokov(not added in Yahoo as he is currently not available there)
if there is anything wrong with this signing Derr just let me know as he is technically a Free Agent and was drafted

Some interesting (not valid) points were presented by Ryan. To me, this is an obvious no-go for the reasons listed above, as well as several others.

Since Nabokov hasn't signed yet (who knows if he ever will), why don't you open up a thread for league discussion, stating your case, so that more opinions can be heard. I don't want to make it seem like the decision is solely at my discretion. I feel as though the league as a whole has a pretty good grasp on the rules though (and the spirit of the rules) as evidenced by Mark's post.

Colorado Signs Kulemin(he was released from a farm team so I don't think he needs to clear waivers, right?) and releases Ponikarovsky

Not 100% sure, but I think Ryan's right & he becomes a FA. I remember past signings of farm players being signed almost directly after being released by other teams.

Kulemin only has to clear waivers if he is being sent to the farm, not if he is signed directly to the big club roster. This is a subtle distinction between being "dropped" and being "released." His eligibility is up very soon anyway, forcing him to be a keeper or merely a rental player.

Sorry, the wording made it seem as if he wanted to sign him directly to his farm without clearing waivers. My bad. I meant he has to clear waivers if he were to be sent to the farm. Big club signing is fair game.
