Rosters have been uploaded to Yahoo. If you placed a player on IR during the off-season, you will likely need to add him to IR on Yahoo and then manually add the player (goalie) who is missing from your roster. Please double-check and make sure everything looks good.
Open free agent signing for all players will begin at the first puck drop of the new season. Feel free to endlessly debate the meaning of that expression.

The regular season officially starts in less than 40 hours from now. Please make sure all rosters are set and all farm-related transactions you wish to make are made before the puck drop as waivers will take effect then.

Waiver period for Khusnutdinov/Jones/Kuzmenko/Joshua/Parayko were automatically changed to free agents by Yahoo for some reason in error. The Waiver Date page I had up after changing Ek/Forsling "reloaded" several hours later. It wasn't done manually. I was never alerted afterwards and only realized it once it was pointed out. Anybody wishing to make a claim on any of these players, please send me PM with the player name/names and waiver priority number by 2:59 AM EST 3/11/24 and the transactions will be processed manually.
I will not be making claims on any of these players.

I think he was just added to the Yahoo system recently and whenever that happens the player goes straight to Waivers I believe.

I think Robyn and I have E-mailed him to no response as well. I tried looking for his Dobber profile but it's gone. Does anyone know where he lives? I've tried looking up his full name but nothing.

I've also tried researching his full name too to no avail. I was under the impression he lived near Detroit. I just read Colin's message in the chat box. I am going to hold off making my selection until we hear some more input from other GMs other than myself, Nos & Colin. This is a far from ideal situation to work from. The simplest and most unbiased approach would be to just set his team to "auto-draft". So essentially if we were in a live draft setting, Yahoo would just be picking the highest available player according to Pre-season O-rank. Again.. this isn't perfect. Some considering would be taken into account as I mentioned before and no goalies would be taken and probably maximum of 2 more Defensemen (5 total on his roster). We could just pivot to drafting the highest point total player from last season? Seems like the majority of those players are higher quality. There's always going to be those Charlie Coyle type players sprinkled in there however. Do we want to appoint someone to draft on his behalf as unbiased as possible? Tough to say. Let's hear some opinions.

It's brings some mid to late 30s players in play but generally being a 'points' league it wouldn't be too egregious than say Coleman in the top 100

I agree with probably highest point total from last season.
Sucks he's not shown up yet and pretty surprising that the league was renewed on yahoo but he's not popped in to say anything. Hoping all is well.

I think opinions should be left out of drafting for another team, reason being, everybody has a different opinion. Everybody has a different idea of value and everybody has different things on their mind in relation to their own team potentially obstructing their unbiased view. You can make fun of Blake Coleman, sure, (we call him pickle fucker) but he was a pretty valuable asset. Points aren't everything either, far from it, but it could be the best general consensus option. I think it's either that or the Yahoo Pre-Season O-Rank, which seems to take into account all of our league's stat categories as well as how the player is expected to perform based on their last few seasons. That's the problem with having an absentee manager, you aren't going to get the nuance in drafting that is typically expected, we just have to do our best to keep the train moving in an efficient manner. Yes certain things should be taken into account, he doesn't need goalies because he typically rolls two anyway and he has Adin Hill coming into Regular Player status shortly anyway (14 games left on his eligibility term). He also owns Scott Wedgewood (20 games left on his eligibility term), backup to Saros. He also doesn't need more than 2, maximum, defencemen. Other than that I don't see any reason to divert from BPA (Points or O-Rank, either is perfectly acceptable) especially for a team such as his that is looking to win now. Yeah, it is extremely unusual for him to be missing this far into the Off-Season, in 18 seasons (this being the 19th) he has never been away like this. He has always been there and has always been very reliable. I'm worried. If he's reading this I truly hope you're okay man. I have to say, maybe it was nothing but, I did notice a change in him in recent years and I reached out to him multiple times privately to talk but he would just say there was nothing to talk about, even when I was insistent on it. I've known him for over 20 years even before this league was formed, met him on the Bloody-Disgusting horror movie forums! He created this hit VHS thread where he claimed he found a random VHS tape that was "haunted" ala Ringu or The Ring but it broke off into multiple storylines, some with him missing for some time before coming back and boy do I hope this is one of those things. I've always believed the Bloody-Disgusting V/H/S movie franchise idea was spurred by his hit Haunted VHS thread.

I'm honestly fine with either the O-Rank or points from last season whichever makes sense and we could argue the whole draft on who to pick and probably not come to a general agreement

My preference would be for Colin to pick his team to the best of his abilities, as this is the most fair thing to do for Derrick. Otherwise, it's gotta be last season's points totals (with some discretion on positions...). The Yahoo O-Ranks are pretty bad. I'm good with the league consensus on this.

I don't think the O-Rank is that bad and there is precedent within the rulebook to use the O-Rank in the event of an absentee manager, for Keeper submissions. Colin's been a fantastic manager, truly a breath of fresh air within the league and a great hockey mind, but I'm not really good with anybody picking for another team for reasons already stated.

At this point, I doubt Derrick is coming back and that's a real shame (unless you want to magically show up for your round 1 waiver pick Derrick!). I hope everything is good in his world. I did some searching a month ago and couldn't find anything about him online, based on what I know about him. If you see this Derrick, thanks for everything you did to make this league amazing for the past two decades.
Cool story time. I've shared this with Derrick in the past and he got a kick out of it. Back in 2009, me and 3 friends decided to make the drive to Detroit to see a Red Wings vs Flames game (March 12, 2009 -- a 6-5 SO win for the Flames!). I wasn't able to buy the tickets without a US credit card, so I asked Derrick to buy them for me and I'll send him money on paypal. He agreed and emailed me the tickets even before I sent him the cash -- and this was after knowing each other online for only a few years. Thanks Derrick.
Cool story time, continued. Two of those friends who came on that trip are now GMs in this league (cool). Our friend and minor hockey teammate played for the Flames at the time and the plan was to go meet the Flames in their dressing room after the game, which as a diehard Flames fan was an insane opportunity (cool). Unfortunately our buddy was traded for Olli Jokinen a week before this game, ruining our plans (not cool). Jokinen scored 2 goals + the SO winner though (cool).

To be fair, Derrick has traditionally done the actual drafting for absentee managers based on his discretion and not any rankings. I think we owe it to Derrick to pick the best team possible for him in case he returns, and having Colin do that is the best option IMO. Alternatively, it's gotta be points from last season with some input on positions (maybe from Colin too). I keep suggesting Colin because he knows his stuff and doesn't have any picks next to Derrick.

I agree, I think Colin should make picks for Derrick. At least his first 4 picks, then he has one beside Derrick(someone else can pick that one). I don’t think the person picking within one or two picks should be able to make the selection.

I don’t think the person picking within one or two picks should be able to make the selection. Just to reiterate, with the two poll options, both methods would remove the human element. It's not like myself or Nos would be choosing the players. The idea behind it is everyone will be able to anticipate who the Senators will draft. No goalies would be drafted and two defensemen will be drafted.

I am truly humbled, thanks Robyn haha. I think point total seems to be popular I'm good with that.
I'm fine not picking for him. Regardless of who it is or how, I just don't think it should be someone who is immediately before or after the auto drafter in question even if it is rankings based. I think its best for league integrity.
