The San Jose Sharks are pleased to select with the 2nd overall pick in the 1st round of the NAFHL Entry Draft, Nikita Filatov.

The Prospect Draft Thread is now open. The mixup was due to the fact that the thread was also "stickied," therefore it did not appear locked on the forum to the naked eye.

Seeing my guys go, it actually feels pretty bad, sad that they won't be playing for me. Two in the top 5, I guess I'm proud in a way.

I imagine this is getting annoying and I do apologize. However, I am waiting on a response to a question I sent out and will probably not be making my pick until the morning. Figured it would be fair to let everyone know.

What's up with the compensation pick for Boston in this year's draft? Shouldn't it be for next year? Like the Jagr situation?

What's up with the compensation pick for Boston in this year's draft? Shouldn't it be for next year? Like the Jagr situation? That is what would seem fair to me as well as the draft should not be changed mid draft for sure, but I think the Jagr ordeal had to wait until the next Waiver draft because it was already the 5th round. Now this did not affect me any, bu im sure there is others it could have affected and I feel that it should have been added as a pick on the 2010 draft

Now this did not affect me any, bu im sure there is others it could have affected and I feel that it should have been added as a pick on the 2010 draft The Jagr situation was handled as described above. Not only was the new rule introduced after last years draft had already started, but it was still being debated and gaining league acceptance way past when the compensation pick would have been made. As far as altering the draft goes, the only person this affects is the person who is losing the roster player. You can not predict losing a player. The value of a keeper slot is far greater than one spot in the waiver draft. Not to mention the less than generous compensation one is offered for losing a 70+ point player or whatever the case may be. Honestly, you would want to trade Henrik Zetterberg (and whoever was not kept in his place) for the 25th overall pick in the waiver draft? And to top it off, wait an entire year before you make your replacement selection? I think not. Come on. Stop being so shortsighted and selfish people.

And to top it off, wait an entire year before you make your replacement selection? I think not. Come on. Stop being so shortsighted and selfish people. This is not an acceptable response. There should still be draft cohesion, a set draft order before the draft begins, and a set precedent. Had my player been chosen I would have been furious at the decision to change the draft order mid draft. Since he wasn't taken I'm fine with it but that doesn't excuse this foul up. Furthermore, why are these selfish players lent more credence and worth over an actual tragedy and loss such as the Cherepanov and Bourdon situations? I messaged you about possibly getting a compensation pick for my highly touted prospect (2nd overall) in the middle of this past season and you basically said 'we'll see'. There was plenty of time to add a pick in this year's draft but it wasn't done, which was fine with me as I figured I'd have to wait for the next draft but then I see this happen and it's like 'are you just picking and choosing?' We need to set a standard and refine this rule.

The Bourdon and Cherepanov incidents happened pre-rule inclusion. They both were terrible losses no doubt, but the rule does not include "deaths of players" nor can we make this into an ex post facto ordeal. The rule is strictly based on compensation for a player who has been kept, and then later signs in Russia. If we were to include deaths we would have to consider compensation for retirements as well and so on and so forth until things are out of hand. With that said, there is no "picking and choosing." The rule is clear. Compensation for players who were kept that sign in Russia. The only modification was with the Jagr situation to accommodate for uncontrollable circumstances. From now on, every compensation pick will be made the year of, assuming the would-be compensation pick has not passed.
Furthermore, complaining about players you want being selected and being pissed is nonsense. The compensation pick affects everyone (who selects after it) equally and the manager who is losing the kept player even more. And as far as I am concerned, drafting is a privilege. None of these players are YOURS. Every team is entitled to 10 keepers (unless traded for other assets) and the only way to somewhat compensate for a lost keeper is a compensation pick in hopes of selecting a new one.
