Draft thread is locked so here's my pick...
The San Jose Sharks are proud to select with the 26th overall pick in the 3rd round of the 2011 NAFHL Entry Draft, Markus Granlund.

The draft thread was locked unintentionally. I am still puzzled as to how this happened, but it has been reopened now.

I meant to ask Derrick, where did you come up with that Prospect Draft ranking? It seems totally random. I thought we had agreed last season to the final Waiver priority list as being the judge of draft rank for this draft? You have it:
1.) Washington Capitals 2.) Ottawa Senators 3.) Calgary Flames 4.) Winnipeg Jets 5.) Boston Bruins 6.) San Jose Sharks 7.) Detroit Red Wings 8.) Carolina Hurricanes 9.) Minnesota Wild 10.) Toronto Maple Leafs 11.) Anaheim Ducks 12.) Colorado Avalanche
The list with Waiver priority as the ranker would be:
1.) Washington Capitals 2.) Colorado Avalanche 3.) Detroit Red Wings 4.) Minnesota Wild 5.) Winnipeg Jets 6.) Anaheim Ducks 7.) Calgary Flames 8.) San Jose Sharks 9.) Ottawa Senators 10.) Toronto Maple Leafs 11.) Boston Bruins 12.) Carolina Hurricanes
As you can see I lose position if we implement the new list, I was just under the impression that's what we were using as the ranker. I'm sure other managers were playing with this in mind as well. I feel like that's a good system to use as well.

I used a random list generator. An email should have been sent to each GM confirming this and the order that was generated. The initial waiver priority for the Yahoo league is randomly generated to begin with, so the ordering of this draft should follow that method as well. This way there is no room for waiver priority manipulation, etc. In addition to the randomness of the waiver priority order, this randomizing of the draft picks for the prospect draft adds yet another wild card in the mix for all teams involved.

I agree that it should be randomly picked at the start of the year, but I also feel using the list at year end as a ranker to be a good way to keep managers honest when using the waiver system, it gives a manager something to think about when giving up priority, from say 3rd overall to 12th. Is using your priority actually worth that? That type of thing. At the start you can have your wild card, but giving the priority list (the wild card) an added importance and meaning by year end would be preferable, no?

Why is that not preferable to you?

This is hard to say but I agree with Nos the order should be based on waiver priority at end of season.

Haha I've been checking just about every 10-15 mins all day pretty much. I'm glad someone has because I haven't been! I was out on the lake all day and just got back in. Don't worry, I had no doubts who I was taking at #2, it just took me a little while longer to get to a computer

I'm working on a deal, will pick soon. I would have taken Subban at 9 given the chance, he's really good.

You can draft for team needs most of these players won't be making an impact till 3-5 years from now at which point who knows what our team needs will be

Did not expect all 3 goalies to be gone by early 2nd round. Sorry Derrick looks like you'll have to dumpster dive and pull a random Euro goalie out of your ass for everyone to be after in 6 years.

Mark my words, Lindholm will end up being the biggest steal of the draft. Can't believe he lasted to 22nd.
